Example polls
Paste any of these into the message box in Slack.
Choice poll. Pick the day. People choose every day that works, so the most supported day wins.
/poll "Which day should be our no-meeting day?" "Tuesday" "Wednesday" "Thursday" close after 2 days
Premium: closing automatically
Close automatically: after 2 days
Survey (3 questions). Settle the rules in one survey before the first no-meeting day.
/poll "No-meeting day rules" "One vote per question. Closes in two days." close after 2 days --- "Customer calls on the no-meeting day?" "Allowed" "Not allowed" limit 1 --- "One-to-ones on the no-meeting day?" "Allowed" "Not allowed" limit 1 --- "How long?" "Whole day" "Afternoon only" limit 1
Premium: surveys (several questions), closing automatically
Close automatically: after 2 days
Choice poll. The monthly check, anonymous so people can say it isn't working.
/poll "One month in: is no-meeting Wednesday working?" "Yes, and it helps" "It is holding but does not help much" "Meetings have crept back" "No" anonymous limit 1
Premium: vote limits
AnonymousLimit votes: 1 per person
Pick the day
Offer only the days that can work. Monday often fills with planning and Friday with demos, so Tuesday to Thursday are the usual candidates, but let the team decide.
Let people pick every day that works for them, rather than limit 1. You want the day
with the most support, not each person's favourite. Give it close after 2 days
(Premium) and announce the winner in the thread.
Agree the rules
The day is the easy part. The rules are what make it stick. Put the questions people will argue about later to a vote now:
- Are customer calls allowed?
- Are one-to-ones allowed?
- Does it cover the whole day or just the afternoon?
A short survey (Premium) with one question per rule settles them in one go.
Check whether it's working
After a month, ask anonymously whether the day is holding and whether it helps. If meetings have crept back, the results give you a reason to push back on them. If people don't feel it helps, try a different day or half-day before giving up.
Set the check-in up as a recurring poll (Premium) from the Simple Poll modal, monthly.
Questions
Should people pick one day or several?
Several. Without limit, people choose every day that works for them, and the day with
the most support wins. That's a better pick than each person's single favourite.
Can the monthly check post itself?
Yes, on Premium. Create it from the Simple Poll modal and use the Schedule button to repeat it. See how to create a recurring poll.
What needs Premium?
close after, limit 1, surveys and recurring polls. A plain vote on the day works on
Free. Try Premium for 14 days with /simplepoll trial.
