How to post them
Put the question in quotes and the two options after it, each with an emoji: "Coffee or tea?" "Coffee" :coffee: "Tea" :tea:. Emoji make the poll quick to scan. Add limit 1
(Premium) if you want everyone to pick a side; without it, people can vote for both.
Ask one question at a time. Five this-or-that questions in one message is a quiz, and fewer people finish it. A weekly slot works well in a social channel, or start a meeting with one and read the result out loud.
Leave the votes named and invite a one-line reason in the thread. "Camera off, because I eat lunch in meetings" is where the conversation starts.
Questions
What is a this or that question?
A question with exactly two options, like "Beach or mountains?". People pick one, and the result shows how the group splits.
How is this different from would you rather?
This or that is two short options with no setup. Would you rather adds a scenario, so it takes longer to read and gets longer answers. See would you rather questions for work.
Is it free to run these polls in Slack?
Yes. Two-option polls with emoji are free in Simple Poll. Only limit 1, one vote per
person, is Premium.

- How to make an emoji poll in Slack
"Emoji poll" means two things in Slack. One is a message where people vote by reacting with an emoji, which needs no app. The other is a proper poll where each option carries an emoji, which reads faster and still counts votes properly. This page covers both, plus the poll emoji themselves.
- Polls for Slack communities
A Slack community is not a company. Nobody has to answer you, half the members are lurkers, and a careless @channel reaches thousands of people who did not ask for it. Polls work well here because they are the lowest-effort way for a quiet member to take part: one click, no message to write.
