# Slack polls for marketing teams

For: Marketing teams

Marketing decisions attract opinions. Every headline, every image, every campaign name has
ten people with a view and nobody with the final say. Polls in Slack do not replace taste or
data, but they get the internal debate done in a day instead of a week of threads.

Use them for internal choices: names, creative shortlists, topics, dates. For deciding what
customers respond to, run a real test; a team vote measures what your team likes.

## Example polls

Paste any of these into the message box in Slack.

```text
/poll "Which hero image do we take forward? Options in the thread." "A: product close-up" "B: customer at desk" "C: illustration" limit 1 hide results
```

Creative shortlist without anchoring on early votes. *Premium: vote limits.*

```text
/poll "Rank the names for the spring campaign" "Clean Slate" "Fresh Start" "Spring Forward" "Reset Week" "Day One" ranked close after 1 day
```

Round two of a naming vote, ranked so similar names do not split the vote. *Premium: closing automatically.*

```text
/poll "Which webinar topics do customers ask about most?" "Annual vs monthly pricing" "Migrating from spreadsheets" "Reporting for leadership" "Getting the team to adopt it" ranked close after 3 days
```

Topic research, sent to sales and support channels. *Premium: closing automatically.*

```text
/poll "Which launch dates can your team deliver by?" "This Thursday" "Next Tuesday" "Next Thursday" close after 1 day @here
```

Dates every owner can hit, decided in a day. *Premium: closing automatically.*

```text
/poll "Webinar debrief. What should we do differently next time?" short text :bulb:
```

Same-day team debrief. Teammates react to the ideas they agree with. *Free.*

## Shortlisting creative

When the designer has three directions for a campaign visual, post them in the thread and
run a single-choice poll on which one to take forward. Use `hide results` so people do not
pile onto the early leader, and ask the team to say what they would change in the thread.
Then the creative lead decides, informed by the vote, not bound by it. See the
[design review vote](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/design-review-vote/).

## Naming campaigns and taglines

Names are the classic bikeshed. Run it in two rounds. First an open poll with
`allow-options` so anyone can suggest, for a day. Then a [ranked](https://simplepoll.rocks/glossary/ranked-choice-voting/)
poll on the top five. Ranking handles the case where two similar names split the vote and
a weaker third one wins. The [project name template](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/project-name/) walks
through both rounds.

## Webinar and content topics

Before you commit a quarter of content, ask sales and support which topics they hear about
most. They talk to customers more than you do. A ranked poll of six candidate topics,
shared in their channels, gives you an order backed by people who hear the questions. Keep
the options concrete: "How to price an annual plan" beats "Pricing".

## Launch dates the whole team can hit

A launch date involves design, web, product marketing and sales enablement. Ask each
owner which dates they can deliver by, with multiple choice on, and close it after a day.
The date with every owner on it is your date. The
[launch date template](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/launch-date/) has the wording.

## Debrief your own events the same day

After a customer event or webinar, debrief the team in Slack that afternoon, while it is
fresh: what to keep, what to cut, what to try next time. A `short text` poll with a voting
reaction lets people add points and agree with each other's in one place, which beats a
thirty-reply thread. Attendee feedback is a separate exercise; the
[event feedback template](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/event-feedback/) covers it.

## Templates for Marketing teams

### [Project name poll for Slack](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/project-name/)

When a project, team, channel or internal tool needs a name and you want ideas from more people than the ones in the room.

```text
/poll "What should we call the new internal analytics project? One or two words, easy to say out loud."
```

Step one. No options, so everyone adds their own ideas and votes on the rest. *Free.*

### [Design review vote for Slack](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/design-review-vote/)

When you have two to four design directions and want fast, structured input from the team before you commit to one.

```text
/poll "Which homepage hero should we ship? Mockups are in the message above." "A, photo hero" "B, illustration" "C, product screenshot" limit 1 hide results anonymous
```

The core vote. One pick each, anonymous, results hidden until you close it. *Premium: vote limits.*

### [Launch date poll for Slack](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/launch-date/)

When a release or launch needs a date the whole team can commit to, or a clear go or no-go before you ship.

```text
/poll "Which launch date can your team hit?" "Tuesday next week" "Thursday next week" "Monday the week after" "None of these" close after 1 day remind 2 hours after posting
```

The date poll. Pick every date you can hit. Closes in a day with one reminder. *Premium: closing automatically, reminders.*

### [Feature prioritization poll for Slack](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/feature-prioritization/)

When you have more candidate features than capacity and need the team, or your stakeholders, to put them in order.

```text
/poll "Which feature should we build first next quarter?" "CSV export" "SSO login" "Offline mode on mobile" "Bulk edit" "Audit log" ranked close after 3 days
```

The core template. Five contenders, ranked, closing before planning. *Premium: closing automatically.*

### [Event feedback poll for Slack](https://simplepoll.rocks/templates/event-feedback/)

Around a team offsite, company party, conference trip or community meetup: a few days before to shape it, and the day after to learn what to repeat.

```text
/poll "What would make the offsite worth your time?" "Strategy sessions" "Team building" "Unstructured time together" "Learning workshops" allow-options
```

Before the event. People pick as many as they like and can add their own. *Free.*

## FAQ

### Should a team vote pick the final campaign creative?

Use it as input. A team vote tells you what the team likes; customer response is a
separate question you answer with a test or real data.

### How do I stop people from voting for the option that is already winning?

Add `hide results`, so voters cannot see the tally until you close the poll in Slack. A
[ranked poll](https://simplepoll.rocks/guides/how-to-create-a-ranked-choice-poll-in-slack/) also hides results
until it closes.

- [Slack polls for product teams](https://simplepoll.rocks/use-cases/product-teams/): Product managers spend a lot of time getting a room to agree. A well-built poll does part of that work in Slack: it shows where people actually stand before the meeting, so the meeting can be about the disagreement instead of discovering it.
